In the introduction to her 2012 analysis, ‘Conflicts of Interest in Vaccine Safety Research’, Gayle Delong of the Department of Economics and Finance at Baruch College, New York states: “Much research is sponsored by vaccine manufacturers and public health bodies, who have financial and bureaucratic interests that could impede the objective study of vaccine safety….Such research is often disseminated by medical journals that have financial reasons to promote the views of the research sponsors….The existence of COIs [conflicts of interest] does not necessarily mean that the research is fraudulent or that the system that sponsors the research is wholly corrupt. To be sure, many honest and unbiased researchers are examining vaccine safety.” However, in spite of that, “if an unbiased researcher bases his or her work on biased research, the result could be an unintentional perpetuation of the bias.”
For years, vaccine consumer groups have been asking for studies comparing long term health outcomes of vaccinated and unvaccinated children, but public health bodies have refused to sponsor them. In 2004, a Dutch association for conscientious vaccination conducted a nation-wide survey of 635 children. During the first five years of life, compared to the unvaccinated children, the vaccinated ones had suffered at least twice as many incidents of antibiotic use, rheumatic complaints, loss of consciousness, convulsions/collapse, aggressive behaviour (a huge difference!), inflammation of the throat (also huge), ear infection, febrile convulsions and crying spells lasting more than three hours.
In 2011, Lucija Tomljenovic PhD wrote about her research of transcripts from meetings of the UK Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization and the Department of Health. In the Introduction of her analysis, she states: “Deliberately concealing information from parents for the sole purpose of getting them to comply with an ‘official’ vaccination schedule could be considered as a form of ethical violation or misconduct. Official documents obtained from the UK Department of Health (DH) and the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) reveal that the British health authorities have been engaging in such practice for the last 30 years, apparently for the sole purpose of protecting the national vaccination program.”
A 2012 Polish study titled Neurological adverse events following vaccination states: “Reports in many Polish and foreign medical journals lead us to conclude that postvaccinal complication among children can be observed in sporadic cases and that they are disproportionate to the benefits of vaccination in the elimination of dangerous diseases in childhood,” and, “Notably, other than not providing an effective stimulus for proper immune system development, recent research has shown that vaccines are actually capable of disrupting it. For example, annual vaccination against influenza has been shown to hamper the development of virus-specific CD8+T-cell immunity in children.”
At right we have listed science articles according to the types of risk discussed. We’ve used part of the framework of the Catalogue of Science at http://www.greatergoodmovie.org/learn-more/science/ and added more categories of our own. More links will be added as the science expands. Where the article titles do not relay authors’ conclusions or comments, these are quoted in italics following the titles. And since some articles would fit into more than one category, we list them only once but refer to their listing category(s) in the other sections.
