Ontario Bill 87 – Concerned Grandmother's Appeal to Legislative Committee

Bill 87, Protecting Patients Act, was passed by the Ontario Legislature on May 30, 2017.  This Act included, under Schedule 1, an amendment to the Immunization of School Pupils Act that forces parents to attend an “education session” in order to file an exemption to vaccination.   Below is one of the thoughtful written submissions to the Committee regarding this amendment.

Standing Committee on the Legislative Assembly – Re: Bill 87
Dear Committee Members:
I am writing to express my opposition to the proposal to require parents who seek non-medical vaccine exemptions to attend so-called “education sessions.”
Let me explain:
I am the mother of now-grown children whom I handed over unquestioningly to be vaccinated as babies and toddlers in the early 1980s.
Until my first grandchild was born, I was unaware of the dramatic increase in the number of vaccines being given to today’s children. (See attachment.)
A person would have to have blinders on and earplugs inserted not to have observed how tragically unwell today’s generation of children is by comparison with people of my own generation and that of my children’s. This is now a full-on crisis!
In the past year I’ve learned much about vaccination. I won’t attempt to summarize it all, but I will convey that this issue has shocked me deeply – far more so than any other issue I’ve ever researched, and since over the past three decades I’ve studied a lot of social justice and environmental issues, that is saying quite a lot.
Here is the most relevant piece of it, in the current context:
Vaccination carries with it significantly heavy risks. How can we know this? Quite simply.
By reading the product inserts that accompany the vaccine vials.
Individuals in a (so-called) democracy possess the inalienable right to make informed choices about medical interventions and procedures that will affect their/our health. Surely we still possess this right, here in Canada?
Parents who choose not to subject their children to vaccination have truly made an informed choice – unlike the majority of the population who have in fact not been properly informed about either inherent risks or the relative efficacy/lack of efficacy of vaccinations.
It is insulting to propose subjecting this most-often-highly-educated (& very small subset) of parents to “education sessions” in which their own deep learning and experience will be insulted … minimized … dismissed … ignored.
It is a fact that more and more medical professionals are choosing not to vaccinate their own children – while hypocritically simultaneously continuing to subject their patients’ children to the dangers they themselves are choosing to avoid. I understand that many employees of the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) are also exercising this choice. Clearly, the word about vaccine dangers is getting around!
I would like to respectfully suggest to the members of this Standing Committee – and by extension, all Members of Provincial Parliament – that you take the time to educate yourselves about this critically important issue.
Even if all you do is obtain and read for yourself what those product inserts or “monographs” contain, you’d immediately be on the road to better understanding. (You might have to tussle with your doctor a little over this. They do not offer the inserts proactively. Nor do the inserts declare 100% of what the vaccines actually contain.) In other words, most parents who submit themselves or their children to vaccination almost never do so as a consequence of “informed consent.” One has to be informed before informed consent can be said to take place!
Parents who choose not have their precious children vaccinated are the ones who are practicing informed consent.
Please do not insult their

  • intelligence
  • learning
  • courage
  • strength

with the threat of so-called “education sessions” in which their own often-very-hard-won learning (tragically too often as a result of vaccine injury to the children they love and cherish so deeply) exceeds exponentially the knowledge of the so-called health “authorities.”
I attach with my letter two items:

Yours very sincerely,
Janet McNeill
