I am writing in response to the request for submissions with regard to CBC’s programming, specifically whether CBC content reflects the diversity of Canada’s population, as well as on how that content relates to themes as reflection and contribution to democratic life in Canada.
I am writing as the father of a vaccine injured child, now deceased, and in my capacity as President of Vaccine Choice Canada. Vaccine Choice Canada is a community of parents, many who have experienced vaccine injury and the death of a loved one. We are committed to preserving our ethical and medical right to informed consent and our Charter rights and freedoms.
From the perspective of Canadians who are “vaccine risk aware”, the CBC has done a significant disservice to our community. In addition to providing programming that is biased, dishonest and disrespectful, the CBC is actively fomenting discrimination against Canadians who have experienced vaccine injury and those who exercise discretion in their vaccine choices.
Further, the CBC has failed in its responsibility to protect and preserve our charter and democratic rights by advocating for policies and practices that undermine our right to informed consent, the right of parents to make medical decisions for our children, our right to security of the person/bodily sovereignty, and our right to a public education for our children.
I have written the CBC’s Chief Editors and Ombudsperson on numerous occasions to offer corrected information with the expectation that public retractions and corrections would be issued. This information has been uniformly ignored. In 2019 I reached out to the CBC with the invitation to help create “a safe space where ideas could be shared, information exchanged, fences dismantled, and relationships mended with regard to the topic of vaccinations.” I invited the CBC to consider an action to help heal the divide that has been created in our society with regard to the differing perspectives on the safety, effectiveness and necessity of our current vaccination program. I wrote:
“Might the CBC make a commitment to refrain from using the label “anti-vaccine”? This label is dishonest and divisive and impedes our ability to develop a deeper understanding of the perspectives of parents whose children have been harmed by vaccination and are now “vaccine risk aware.” This simple act would help to create a climate that makes constructive dialogue more possible. Will you work with me on this goal? Is it possible the CBC could become an agent to heal this manufactured divide in Canada? I can’t imagine a more worthwhile goal than this.”
The CBC declined this simple request.
We need a public broadcaster who will provide a safe forum for meaningful dialogue and where controversial and contentious topics can be discussed in a respectful and meaningful way. This broadcaster would provide an arena for factual and meaningful dialogue, where common ground is sought and ideas are exchanged so that Canadian viewers/listeners would better understand perspectives that they themselves may not hold.
We need a public broadcaster where all voices are heard and where people can respectfully engage one another to resolve differences and create a more civil and democratic society. This is no more needed than with the topic of vaccination.
The CBC has failed miserably in offering balanced and fair reporting to the Canadian public on the topic of vaccinations. There is no room for one-sided reporting and deep bias in honest journalism, yet this is what the CBC consistently delivers. The result has been to polarize Canadians, pitting parent against parent, family against family, and community against community.
In its complete and utter censorship of the plight of vaccine injured Canadians, the CBC is also censoring the emerging science on vaccine safety which includes the fact that placebo controlled studies have never been conducted on any vaccines on the childhood schedule, nor on the neurotoxic ingredients contained in many vaccines, such as aluminum.
Many Canadian perceive the CBC as independent and without bias. While this may be true with many, if not most issues, this is not the case when the topic is vaccination. The CBC seems committed to disseminating an industry-sponsored narrative rather than providing truly investigative journalism that seeks and tells the truth. This bias is not a one off, but rather occurs on a persistent and consistent basis indicating that this bias is intentional and encouraged by the senior levels of the CBC. The failure of the CBC to hold open and honest discussions about vaccination has eroded our trust in the CBC and misleads Canadians on this important topic.
It is my contention that unless the CBC is truly committed to open, honest, bias-free programming, Canadians would be better served by terminating the broadcast rights of the CBC.
