Dear VCC Community,
Three years in we can finally begin talking about pandemic policies with a modicum of sanity. The National Citizens Inquiry is a good example of this, as are many articles in this week’s Choice Insider. Gabrielle Baur, author of Blindsight is 2020, says – “We need to understand what fed the narrative of panic and the destructive policies it set in motion.” We need to figure out why we, as a society, decided that freedom and personal sovereignty have no value.
We need to talk about why decision makers not only refused to consider alternative approaches, but gaslit and punished those who proposed that there were alternatives. We need to talk about the lack of oversight, and how our institutional braking mechanisms abandoned us. We need to talk about why so few spoke out against the damaging and dehumanizing measures and what happened to our elected representatives, academics, journalists, doctors, and judges. And we need to talk about why so many went along with the coercion and discrimination.
There are many who don’t want to talk about what happened; they want to pretend it didn’t happen or was not that bad. It was that bad. Most of the world imposed restrictions and mandates never before enacted in peacetime. And it wasn’t because of “the science”. “The science” never supported universal masking, lockdowns, and the coerced injection of an experimental genetic technology that was neither safe, effective or necessary.
If we don’t understand what fed the narrative of panic and control at all costs, we’re vulnerable for a repeat performance. The next global crisis may not be a virus, or even a pandemic, but will undoubtedly set off the same impulse to panic and abandon all hope of responsible action. We must do better. This is no way to live.
