After more than four decades of advocacy, Edda West has announced her resignation as a member of the Board of Directors of Vaccine Choice Canada.

Edda began researching vaccine safety in 1977 following her daughter’s severe reaction to a vaccine. In 1982, when Ontario passed the mandatory Immunization of Schools Pupils Act, Edda, along with a group of concerned parents, fought for two years to secure an amendment to the Act to allow for conscientious exemptions under the new Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Edda was the inspiration and driving force behind the creation of Vaccination Risk Awareness Network (VRAN) which became Vaccine Choice Canada in 2014.

Edda has contributed countless hours over many decades researching the scientific literature, answering the questions of parents, and supporting those of us whose children were vaccine injured. Edda provided critical information and support for those parents choosing to keep their children vaccine free, all the while serving as a resource for the media and the public.

Edda was Editor of the VRAN Newsletter and Vaccine Choice Journal, two important resources where VCC members accessed the latest in science, health and worldwide news about vaccination and health. Edda’s moving editorials in those journals are timeless. Edda’s keen research skills will continue to benefit VCC, our members and friends with her weekly top news picks.

We are all indebted to Edda for her tireless efforts to ensure that parents maintain the right to informed consent as pertains to vaccines in Canada.
